    Katie,

You are one of the strongest people I know. You are strong mentally, physically, and strong in your faith. With these qualities, I know that God will heal you and bless you. I will continually pray for you. I wait for the day when you return to the school's hallways and brighten my day with your cheerful smile.

"Be strong and brave. Don't be afraid of them and don't be frightened, because the Lord your God will go with you. He will not leave you or forget you." Deuteronomy 31:6

    Dear Katie,
I'm a swimmer on GCAT and have been fortunate enough to have met you and spoken with you. You're such a sweet and good-natured person and strong swimmer. I hope we will come into contact many more times after you recover. I know luck has nothing to do with what is going on, so rather than wish you good luck, I will continue to pray for you and your family and ask God to grant you the peace of recovering quickly and without more complications. My love goes out in utmost sincerity to you and your family and everyone connected to you who is struggling in your abscence. Best wishes and see you on deck (sometime soon).
    Love, Maggie Hayes

    Dear Katie,
I live in Atlanta, and my small group from church heard about you and the battle you are fighting. I just want you to know that I am praying for you and that when this is over, I know you will be able to look back and see that "God works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28. I am confident that He will receive all the glory for your full recovery, and that you will use this struggle to encourage others. I will continue to pray for a full recovery, for strength, for wisdom for the doctors, and for your family. God Bless.

To Katie and the York family,
It was such a devastation to hear about Katie! As I had just seen Katie in our office a few days before she was put in the hospital. I knew she was sick but it was only because Melrose stressed her concern for her duaghter (not becuase Katie complained). I have been Katie's nurse for some time now and out of all the times she has been in our office sick she never really complained. She always had a smile on that bright adorable face of hers. I remember making the comment to Melrose before they left the office "how can Katie be her sickest and still look so cute?"
Katie, I have not been able to get you off of my mind since I found out. I have laid awake many nights just wondering how you were doing and fortunately Dr.Dunagan found this website in honor of you. So now your wonderful brother keeps me and many many many people like me caught up on your highs and lows. It sounds as if you have many more highs than lows lately which is a big excitement and a relief. I do believe that God heals all and I am praying that God puts His healing hand on you.
Melrose, Ron, and Paul, I am praying that God puts His patient hand on all of you. I could not imagine going through everything that your wonderful family is going through. Please hold tight to your faith and God. God can provide in moments of desparation.
    God bless,
    Nicole

    Katie girl!
    - I am so pleased to hear the positive news! You are in my thoughts everyday especially when i walk past your teammates on my way to the other side of the pool. I can not wait until i get to see your face when i walk back into the locker room again! You are staying so strong throughout all of this and that is amazing! We all know you can do it and stay strong. I remember this past summer, i would get so excited when i got to work with you at the watervale pool. You would always try to give me your hours when you couldn't work either! YOu are and wonderful friend and i could never ask for anything else. I am awaiting the day to hear that you are awake and smiling again! With much love -Brandy McCauley-

    Katie and family,

I live in Minnesota and have been in touch with Coach Conn who sent your names my way for prayer.

I will be checking the website and keeping your family in my prayers. I trust the Lord to guide the medical recovery giving grace to family, friends, and Katie.

What a blessing to know that God always has the best in mind for his children although we may not understand it. We can trust in his Sovereignty.

May "the Lord bless you and keep you, the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious unto you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace."

    Yorks,
I stopped by yesterday afternoon just to check on you guys and keep in touch. You weren't in the waiting area, so I hoped you were visiting with Katie. I left a note and my card at the desk. Elizabeth and I heard Katie's update on WAFJ this week on the way to school. It sounded as though they were very well acquainted with Paul's updates. Paul, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK--you are a HUGE blessing to your family and the community in helping us stay "current' on the latest medical condition of Katie and to better focus our prayers for her recovery. Thanks for sharing your incredible talent with us for the benefit of your beautiful sister. We love all of you and continue to hold you near in our hearts and prayers.

    Grace and peace,

You are still in my prayers daily. Melrose, Ron and dear sweet Paul you are all of course in my prayers. How awesome for Katie to have such a loving brother to take the time that he has taken to keep us all posted with all that you are going thru. I spoke with my friend in Cincinatti this morning and she checks the site daily and continues to pray. Things are looking up because God is near.

Update #14 is wonderful news! We are continuing to lift Katie, her doctors and nurses and all of her family to our Lord Jesus in earnest prayer. Keep remembering that God is still in control even when we can't imagine his purpose. Precious Katie will be back with all of us very soon. Augusta Christian Schools is missing such a sweet, Godly young woman. Stay strong and faithful. Ron, Melrose and Paul, thank you for the lessons in faith that you have taught all of us.

    Dearest Melrose, Ron, & Paul:

Know that you and Katie are in my thoughts and prayers daily. My heart goes out to you with each report I read and any news I hear from others. The desperation I have felt from time to time since Davis' illness cannot compare to what you must be going through with sweet Katie. I truly trust in my heart that God will restore Katie to her full, wonderful self and that we will all look back on these times and we may never know why but we know that God knows why. Great things will come from both Katie and Davis!!!

    Much Love,
    Kay

    Melrose and family,

After three weeks, a verse on my mind is “Jesus wept.” Also, that even He felt pain to the point of saying “God, why have you forsaken me?”

Although it is hard for me to understand His “allowing” the lengthy illness (I tend to pray a Job-like tantrum), I believe that part of His great love was coming and experiencing such pain himself – somewhat mysteriously both as the parent, seeing His son suffer, and as the suffering son. So, incredibly, our creator and sustainer understands EXACTLY what we feel as humans.

And I do believe that “All things work for good for those who love him.”

Our fervent prayers for Katie’s recovery and your strength continue.

    God bless,

    Shirley Darracott

    Dear Katie,
I was just looking at the crazy pictures of me, you, and Meghan at Wal-mart....and we were just remembering all our many crazy/great times we've had together...like the nite me and Meghan spent the nite at your house and we ate like 20 bags of candy and watched Italin Job and we played on your workout ball untill like 3 in the morning, haha! You are such a sweet, fun loving girl and I know, even now, God has His perfect will for you! His hands are on you and He will heal you! You have grown so much this past year in your walk with the Lord and I respect you for your awesome growth and I know this is just one of the many tests that we all have to go through in out lifetime. I know God has been preparing you for a time such as this and He wouldn't have let this happen to you unless He knew you could handle it! Remember our old memory verse that says, consider the testing of your faith great joy because it makes you stronger! Well, Katie, I know you will come out of this an even better Katie then before! I think and pray for you several times throughout the day and every class prays for you too. I come into contact with people every where who know you or know of your situation, There are so many prayers that are sent to God everyday just for YOU...you really are very precious and special to many people. You have made such an impact on our lives and you are a continuous example of how a christian should live....so thank you! I love you so much and I can't wait to see you again. I miss you soooo much!

    Katie, Paul and Family,

God gives us crosses to carry throughout our lives on earth to make us stronger in both mind and body. These crosses, though sometimes they seem too difficult, are only as difficult as God deems we are able to carry. From the updates, it would seems that Katie is overcoming the adversities of her "cross". You, Paul, and your family, have the harder "cross" to bear because you must watch Katie struggle with her "cross" - you must continue to believe in God's will as these wonderful doctors are guiding Katie to consciousness and renewed health. Their knowledge and expertise comes directly from God's hand - it is He who heals "our Katie" through these special doctors. Katie remains at the top of my prayer list and I so look forward to meeting her sometime soon. Remain strong for yourselves and for Katie. I feel such love for you all. Frog Rappoport

    Paul,
I told you in my first communication to Katie that I had a severe head trauma when I was 14 and was unconscious for 2 1/2 weeks. Now I want to share with you my regaining consciousness. The day I awoke, I remembered wearing my red flannel nightgown the "night before"; my first realization was I was not wearing this nightgown; second, I didn't know where I was; third, why was my arm in a cast? I was very confused and scared. When Katie awakes, it will very likely be like the "twilight zone" for her and she will most likely be very scared, and her actions will likely be unpredictable. I am 57 now and I still have very little memory of my life prior to the car accident. I, of course, had a different kind of "injury" to my head than Katie has, but I will caution you that there is a chance she will not remember all things prior to her being so sick with the flu. If this is the case, it will be a bit scary for you and your family, and of course for Katie, but that is a small price for having the present and future! I tell you this because having lived for 43 years without remembering my childhood, I'm OK with it - it is a little strange, but really, I am OK, and so, too, will be Katie. I look forward to meeing all of you; especially Katie; tell her I love her and pray, every day and night, for her complete recovery. May the peace and love of God be with you all.
