Katie Update #15

Katie's Valentine's day turned out to be a bit of a disappointment for everyone. Starting just after midnight this morning, Katie began having seizures again. As the levels of Pentobarbitol in her blood continued to fall, her seizures started to break through. They were relatively minor seizures, ranging from a few seconds to just under a minute, but they are certainly back. This was quite a blow to the whole family and to our caring medical staff, not because the seizures were all that bad, but simply because we all hoped Katie had put this part of her battle behind her.

We've had time now to put this news into perspective, though, and realize that we are still much better off than we were early last week and especially the week before. She achieved full seizure suppression for a number of days and really only started having the attacks again when she had all but regained full brain function. This is a great improvement over her condition a week ago, where she was having severe breakthrough seizures even when her brain was fully suppressed on Pentobarbitol. She is still receiving a moderate dose of Pentobarbitol, but it is far, far less than the dosages of a week ago. Further, doctors have noted that the seizures seemed to occur at times when the levels of Depakote (a common anti-seizure medication) in her blood had dropped significantly. This gives them some hope that perhaps the seizures can be controlled by administering the Depakote more frequently and at a bit higher dosage. The Neurology team has left instructions for administering medications such that this hypothesis can be tested, and again we are left waiting, worrying, and praying until tomorrow. If this doesn't work, there are other things that the neurologists want to try before resorting to increasing her Pentobarbitol dosages again. This knowledge provides us with some comfort, as we definitely don't want to see her brain put back to sleep completely again if at all possible.

That is about all that I have to report at this point. I'm sorry the news isn't great, but we continue to have faith that Katie will pull through this. I hope that you all have a happy Valentine's day and share amongst yourselves the love that you have and continue to share with us.

Paul

    Hi Paul and Family ~

Thank you again for the continued updates. This is how we start our mornings at Augusta Christian Schools...asking about Katie. This update was a disappointment, but keep looking on the positive side...Katie is strong and has come a long way! I know that God hears the prayer of all His children and I believe that when the prayers go up...the blessing come down. Jesus loves us this I know for the Bible tells us so. Katie and your family is soooo very loved. I am keeping positive thoughts and prayers. Please give my sweet baby girl Katie a kiss for me!

Sending a big hug your way!

    Katie,

Sitting here typing this comment, I can't help but think about the last time we carpooled to Aiken. It's amazing how someone can go from a beautiful, smiley, happy person to sick and in the hospital in a matter of days.

My families thoughts and prayers are with you ALWAYS!

I miss you so much! Stay strong! I know you are!

    Love Ya KT!!

I don't believe in God, but I know you don't need him to pull through this. You can do it on your own, because you are just THAT strong.

    Hi Katie and Family,

To start off with, let's all offer up a prayer for the poor soul who left the previous comment. May Our Lord bless and convict this person today.

Mr. Paul, thank you for the continued updates. We greatly appreciate your effort in this. What another way to Praise Our Lord's Name! To think that our modern technology can be used to hold us all together to Glorify Our Lord through a prayer chain.

Katie, Dear, you probably don't know me. I barely know you. My son attends school with you at ACS. But that does not matter. We have all grown to know you more and love you more these last few weeks and have continually held your name up to our Lord and Savior.

Katie, you are God's creation and He has placed you on this earth for a purpose. He is in control of all that He creates. I truely believe that we shall all pass through this ordeal stronger and on fire for the Lord more than ever before. But all in God's timing.

I know He is with you and I believe when you awake that you will tell us of seeing the face of our Lord in your deep sleep. God bless you, Sweet Katie, child of God.

    In prayer:

    Our Dear Heavenly Father,

We love You and Praise Your Holy Name. You are the Almighty! You are in control. We come to You seeking comfort now more than ever before.

Dear Lord, we ask that you place your Loving, Healing Hands on Katie and remove what the evil one has placed there. Make her whole as if nothing had attacked her body. We give You all the Glory and Honor.

Also, Lord, we ask that You place Your Strong Loving Arms around Katie's family and loved ones. Hold us steady and strong for Katie. Let us feel Your Comfort.
You are the Creator and Master of All!

Lord, in our time of need, let us not forget all the blessings that You bestow on us daily. Thank You. And especially Thank You for our Salvation through Your Son Jesus!

And, again, Lord, we ask for Your
blessings on the author of the previous comment. We lift this person up to you and pray for an opportunity to help this person.

In Jesus' Holy Name we Pray,

    Amen.

    Dear Katie & family,

We will continue to lift you up in our prayers and believe God for the Victory over this situation. Our hearts and prayers are with you. Thank you for the continued updates. May God strengthen you by the power of His might in your inner man. We are believing and praying for total healing and restoration.

(We too lift up to the throne of God the one who said he didn't believe in God. Father in Heaven, please remove the veil from his eyes that he may see and receive Jesus Christ as his personal savior. In Jesus Name, Amen)

    Dear Katie,

I have one of those calendars with sayings on my desk and today I'm looking at, "The guardian angels of life sometimes fly so high as to be beyond our sight, but they are always looking down upon us." I know they're looking after you sweetheart - stay strong and know how much you are loved.
