Katie Update #11
Well, it is a gray and rainy day here in Augusta, but we believe that
the sun continues to shine on Katie's recovery. She had a very good day
yesterday and continued to do well throughout last night and this
morning. Her temperature has been normal for the past two days, and her
lungs appear to have mostly recovered from the complication a few days
ago. She will likely have some fluid in her lungs until she can wake up
and cough it all out, but the doctors think that the fluid is no longer
infected, which indicates that she is essentially over her pneumonia.
She is no longer positive for the flu virus and her blood cultures show
no sign of bacterial infection. These are all very positive signs of her
physical recovery.
From a neurological perspective, Katie has continued to show positive
signs, as well. Her last seizure was at 1:15 AM yesterday morning, and
that one was extremely short. While we are now approaching 36 hours
without seizure, the doctors are not yet ready to bring her back. Her
EEG scans still show some abnormal activity which the doctors are not
really able to read accurately; there is simply not enough historical
data on this type of activity to make any judgments as to what it means.
We believe that they may wait until they see the results of an MRI scan
before they make any moves towards lowering her Pentobarbitol levels and
bringing her brain back to consciousness. The MRI was scheduled for
yesterday evening, but it was rescheduled for tonight. We are praying
minimally for no further advancement of the lesions in her brain, and at
best for some indication of healing.
Overall, we are in much better spirits. Our friends and family continue
to shower us with love and support, which has helped us tremendously in
staying strong throughout this process. We continue to be thankful for
her incredible physical strength and hope and pray that any and all
neurological damage is reversible. We now assume that at best Katie
might be allowed to return to consciousness some time next week, though
we are prepared for a longer wait if necessary. It will probably be at
least another week or so after that before the neurological effects of
the medications wear off and we have any true indication of whether the
Katie we know and love is back with us completely. As ever, we thank you
for your continued prayers for strength and healing, and I will continue
to keep you updated as to her progress.
Sincerely yours,
Paul

Katie, Melrose, Ron and Paul,
There is power in prayer. I have sent your prayer request across the nation and have asked them to pray for Katie. She is on the prayer list at Saddleback Church, our home church. I pray for God to give each of you the strength to continue to walk down this path that at times seems dark. Make no mistake, God is carrying each of you in His loving arms. In times like these our faith and trust is in Him totally and that is really where he wants us all the time. I specifically pray for complete healing of Katie and I pray for God to be glorified in this sickness. I pray that Katie will be used by God to shine her light on other young people that so need to be lead down the path of light. I pray for God to use Katie in her testimony and her witness. I pray each any every person you come in contact with at the hospital would be touched in some way by Katie. Dear God please give each family member the strength, hope and endurance needed to carry them on. Pleace your burden upon Him and let Him carry it. Katie, there are truly angels in your presence watching over you.
In His love,

Hey Katie and Family I just want you to know that the group from Wednesday afternoon bible study is praying for you each week and checking up on how your doing. Well on a more personal note I'd like to pray for your continued healing and that God being the good man he is will heal you in more ways then one;spirtually, mentally, and physically. I'd also like to thank Paul for keeping us updated because we really appreciate that. I would like Katie's family to know that I and everybody else is not just praying for Katie avidly but you guys to. We are just praying that ya'll will get rest and just that God will heal the missing part in your hearts which is Katie's laugh and smile but when this is all over you'll see that again. I know what your going through as I have been away from my mom twice each 100 days or more because she had cancer and is now free of it for the first whole year. We love ya'll and are praying for you all the time. Are prayers are with you through this trying time. And we are glad you've been faithful throughout. God Bless all of Ya'll and also your freinds Family and him.

Dear Yorks,
My mother and family in Virginia, my children in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and California and myself and my friends here in Alabama are keeping Katie and all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
I appreciate the updates that way I don't have to bother my family in Martinez to find out how Katie is doing. May God continue to bless you all with His healing and love. God bless all of you.

Ah, Miss Katie, You are a fighter. Give those germs what for. Hit 'em with your Dad's golf balls, smash 'em with your Mom's wit, dash 'em with Paul's vocabulary, get'em with Uncle Dave's tenacity and love 'em to pieces with your Grandma's ability to talk to anybody anytime. You've got strength and courage in spades with all these people runnin' through your genes. On top of that add a bunch of prayers from everybody in everywhere USA. And a bunch of love from those closest to you. We're helping as best we can to fight these guys off, and it sounds to me like most germs have figured out they are unwelcome. Persevere. Love to all of you, Shirley

Dear Katie and Family, Two good updates in a row! This is progress and we are so very happy for all of you. It must be incredibly hard to keep up with this "roller coaster" but we are so glad Katie is still fighting with her beloved family at her side. Keep it up a while longer! Love, The Tonry's
