Katie Update #3

Well, I'm a bit late in getting this update out today. I decided to
create a new web site for archiving these updates and to provide a
central place for people to go and share their thoughts and prayers. The
address for the new site is http://katieyork.blogspot.com. All of these
updates will be posted there. You can comment on the updates, ask
questions, and discuss her condition among yourselves (and I'll pipe in
when I can). Additionally, there is a guest list to sign and a single
place for you all to leave your prayers. You may continue to send
personal e-mails. I just added this site because I thought it might be
nice for everyone to get to see how much love and support we are receiving.

The prayer pager has been going off non-stop. When my wife first heard
about the concept, she initially responded "Wow, that's sweet, but it
must get annoying." I responded to her and I'll reiterate to you that it
does not. They have the pager on vibrate mode, so each prayer you send
provides the holder with a comforting buzz and a feeling of warmth.
Please keep it up. It is so wonderful to know that people are keeping
Katie close in their hearts and prayers.

Yesterday didn't go quite as well as we had hoped. Katie's brain
returned to functioning as expected, but she still had some seizure
activity. The neurologist said that the seizures were less severe and
much less frequent, but still seemed to be uncontrolled. Therefore, at
around 2 o'clock, the doctors decided to put her brain back to sleep and
let it heal for another 24 hours. They also changed out one of her
anti-seizure medications to see if the new one will better repress her
seizures. We were prepared for this possibility and she is making
significant progress towards recovery, so we weren't too upset by this.
But we were hoping to be able to wake her up yesterday evening, so it
was a bit of a blow. Still, we are patient and strong, and Monday is
only a day away, so we'll continue to wait by her side, supported by all
of your love and prayers.

Davis Parker is still our neighbor in PICU, but his spirits remain high
and at last report he is progressing well towards recovery. He is such a
strong and sweet child. He was upset about having to move back to the
ICU, but he told his parents that he understood. "God sent me down here
to be closer to Katie and to help watch over her." The world needs more
people like him in it. I know that he will survive and grow stronger for
the experience.

Thank you all again for continuing to provide us with your strength. We
feel it and appreciate it greatly. Tomorrow is a new day and a fresh
start for Katie, and we know that it will bring us good news.

With sincere thanks and prayer,
Paul
