Katie Update #16
Well, there is not too much new to report today, but I wanted to send out an update anyway to make sure everyone stayed informed of Katie's progress. She did continue to have some seizures last night and into this morning. However, the levels of Depakote in her blood were still below the levels that the neurologists wanted to see, so they are again changing the way in which some of her drugs are being administered to try and keep the levels constantly high. Again, her liver seems to be working well to expel toxins, though in this case the toxins are supposed to be for her own good. The seizures were still somewhat frequent, but their duration was very short and the brain activity in between seizures was relatively normal, a finding that our lead neurologist deemed "encouraging." We're taking him at his word and feeling somewhat encouraged. They also decided to again lower her Pentobarbitol levels a bit. Because the seizures are short and she has normal brain activity between seizures, the neurologists do not believe that she is in a state known as "status epilepticus." The primary focus of keeping her sedated with Pentobarbitol was to prevent further brain damage that can result from prolonged, essentially non-stop seizures that are associated with being in this state. Therefore they believe that they might be able to safely wean her from this drug, though as always they are doing so very slowly with careful and extended monitoring.
That is all that I have to report for now. I will, of course, keep you all updated as things change.
Sincerely,
Paul

Dear York Family,
Paul seems gifted in his ability to communicate with the written word- thanks for the updates. When I check for updates (which is several times during the day), I await news with a Mother's heart. My prayers and thoughts go out to Katie's family, especially her mother. I pray for strength and comfort for Katie's mom. The up's and down's, and the uncertainty can take a toll. I know that her mom is a srtong Christian, and that she has many faithful friends who are seeing her through this. I continue to pray for Katie's recovery and God's grace to sustain her and her family.

Hey Katie and Family,
Sorry I have not come to see yall but once the first night but certainly dont think I have forgotten or pushed this thought aside. Yall are in everyones thoughts all day long we miss Katie's exciting and bright personality at school and we are always praying for yall to keep God in sight and find peace with Him through this tough time. I just want to thank you Paul for posting updates about our close friend for us. Just remember it only takes faith the size of a mustuard seed to move mountains. Keep your heads up high and eyes on God and he will carry Katie and everyone else through this and make something great out of it. With lots of love,
William Walker

It's mci! "From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I" (Psalm 61:2)I know you and your Family turn to God as your rock and seek him for strength, but I also hope that our prayers may be the pebbles to keep you company. Just keep on truckin'-you are so strong, but its now more than obvious where you get that from...
To the Yorks~
Nothing I could say or do could change how you all are feeling with what is happening to your wonderful Katie, as well as, all of you... I would willingly take this all on my self and I constantly pray that God would put any of your worries on me... Katie has truly impacted me over the years in so many ways... her talents, intelligence, kindness, her gracious manor -even simply by her laugh... please remain strong as you have some how been able to thus far; as much as my prayers are for Katie, you must know they are for all of you as well...
with love and prayer, Mary-Catherine Ivey
